Oxfordshire Marquee Wedding
Molly and John-Henry chose to have their marquee wedding at John-Henry's parents' farm near Oxford, Oxfordshire. Molly had a real vision of what she wanted her wedding day to look like, and oh boy did I love the brief!
While there were, of course, nods to country life, found in the wheat strands tucked into the knotted napkins, and the classic tractor that took them from the house to the marquee and - my favourite - the bar John-Henry built out of a cattle feeder; Molly still wanted the day to feel sophisticated while right at home on the farm. So some luxe touches were added to the tables with gold cutlery, white linen (instead of rustic tables), gold candle stick holders and long-stemmed glassware, while the shades of green in the napkins, taper candles and table centrepieces perfectly reflected the beautiful Oxfordshire views surrounding the wedding marquee.
When I first met Molly and John-Henry, via video link as they were extremely busy on their farm in Shropshire, I also had the pleasure of meeting what they term 'not your traditional farm dog': their adorable pug Percy. Pretty Percy came with a dog walker for wedding group photos, couple portraits - and to charm everyone during the drinks reception - but then headed home to a snuggly bed while his parents partied the night away. I think you'll agree he aced his job as wedding dog?!
The day started with Molly getting wedding ready at her mum's house in Bicester, which gave her a short ride to the church in Launton, Oxfordshire, where they chose to marry. Unexpectedly, the local football club had decided to use the opposite field as parking that day, which required me to do some on-the-spot traffic managing to get guests, suppliers, Molly and her bridesmaids in, but everyone arrived safely and on time. And just before the heavens opened (!) Molly had a beautiful walk up the church path to the entrance. Afterwards, the sun peeped through once more, and everyone understood the confetti throwing assignment!
From Launton we all headed to Elsfield - which might be the prettiest village in Oxfordshire, particularly for a wedding - where guests were greeted with Prosecco, beers, San Pellegrino and canapés while family photos were being taken in the beautiful farmhouse gardens. From there, Molly & John-Henry had a short tractor ride down to the marquee, that sat overlooking Oxford's tallest spires in the distance, and received a proper welcome to their wedding celebrations.
From there, everyone got to enjoy a two-course meal with pre-ordered choices, some very funny and heartwarming speeches, a very well received Espresso Martini wall post-dinner and a proper party into the wee hours of the morning. No one parties like a previous Young Farmer crew! My team were in charge of the drinks and bar this day, in addition to our normal jobs, but after completing the pack-down, we were still riding that euphoric wedding high, dancing our way to our cars. What an epic wedding we got to be part of - thank you Molly & John-Henry!
